General Chiropractic Care

Why is taking care of your spine important?

The spinal cord is responsible for sending and receiving messages from the brain. A column of nerve fibers that runs through the spinal canal and this help to communicate instructions to the rest of the body. Controlling body movement and optimal organ function is reliant on the proper functioning of our spine.

What happens when the spine is stressed? What is subluxation?

When your spine is stressed or the position is altered, it is termed as "subluxation." When the spinal cord connections are not lined up, the nerves attached to it are also affected. Hence, wherever there is a subluxation, the proper connection has to be restored, so that nerves can continue to communicate to the brain. Think of it like an optic fiber, if there is a disconnect in the wire, then your internet communication gets disconnected. A technician has to come and restore the optic fiber physically and then you can get online again. Similarly, a chiropractor comes in to detect the nerve interference and restore the connection through adjustments.

What is an adjustment?

A chiropractic doctor identifies the location of the subluxation and applies gentle but specific force in this precise location. This action of setting the spine back into its correct position is called adjustment. By doing this, the spine returns to normal position and restore the body's natural healing function.

Is adjustment only necessary when injured?

Not at all. Matter of fact, opting to see your chiropractor proactively is a great choice for a healthy body. Why? Because we don't realize that our spine gets stressed with routine activities. Lifted a heavy luggage? Bent down to pick up a pencil but did not feel right when you reversed? Slept in an odd position too long? These things are stressors! They may be mild but can aggravate over time. It depends on your body ability to deal with the impact of daily activities. Without us realizing, the spine is stressed and these shows up as neck pain, headaches, back pain sometimes even without injury.

When you get adjustments proactively, you are actively boosting your immunity, keeping your nervous system connected, and avoiding any onset of pain. Like the adage goes, "prevention is better than cure."

What else can I expect in a chiropractic appointment apart from adjustment?

It will depend on your diagnosis. In general in these may be part of your treatment plan:

  • Electrical muscle stimulation
  • Heat and ice therapy
  • Exercise education
  • Dietary management tips
  • Deep muscle release therapy
